I didn’t do much on the shed today all the work done was Nolan.  There was an emergency at work (we lost power to the building and the back up generator was iffy).  So I dropped my hammer and went into work while Nolan plugged onward.   Which was kind of a bummer; you see I love using my nail gun.

I couldn’t decide which of the pictures I liked better so today is a twofer.

Technically, this was taken the next morning after we had raised the last two walls.

Still raining so it was back in the basement.   We hung the door to the rooms and put up all the sheetrock.

I have always liked how properly cut sheetrock looks nice and smooth were the blade has cut it rough and ragged where it has been snapped.

It was rainy yesterday so the work moved inside.  We (and when I say we I mean Nolan) planned out the rooms downstairs and made a cut list so that we knew exactly what to cut and where each piece went.  That was a new concept to me I have always done it onesy twoesy.  Which is why it takes me forever.

This picture was fraught with technical challenges highest among them was the lack of strobes. I wanted to freeze the saw blade but with only the one flash the shadows were way to harsh. But using my spider-light to soften the shadows cause the motion to blur. It was not the image that I had envisioned but I think that it is still pretty good.  Check out the saw dust kicking off the blade.

Prevents Poor Performance.  I have taken to sharpening my own knives.  That way I can always guarantee that the knives I use are in the correct “shape”.  I believe that success in the kitchen begins and ends with the knife.  A good sharp knife and using correct skills makes everything so much easier.  Cooking is like anything else, you have to put lots of time in doing boring tedious stuff that way when the moment of truth arrives everything is second nature.

50mm reversed f/22 1.6s
This was a tough picture for me to get all right.  Getting the mill marks lit correctly without over exposing the metal was a bear, and get the right details in focus was just as hard.  This was as good as I could get, but it was fun to try.

Makes rivers and men crooked.

We went to Tulip Days at Thanksgiving Point. Other than being overcharged it was a lot of fun. We all got a lot of pictures that we like and the boys got to run crazy and roll down huge hills.

I like this picture. The leading line of the creek is nice. The pool and the flowers are very calming and nice. I guess I’m saying that it is a nice picture.

This is the most important herb in my pantry. I love basil or as the Italians call it Basilico.

50mm reversal ring f/22 5s

I spent a lot of time on getting this right and that was after I thought I had found a good picture. That has led me to another post. I have posted every picture I took yesterday in trying to get a picture ready for the challenge. Please check it out (link).

A picture I like, this week has been tough… This is a take on couple of earlier posts (Fall into Spring and Pasta).  I wanted to try something new.  So I tweaked the recipes so that I could try sea scallops.  I learned that be the chef, food stylist, and photographer is TOUGH.  After I took this picture I was absolutely exhausted.

I should have moved the plate to the right and not had it so crowed to the right.  A napkin for the fork and maybe even a full place setting would have been good.  A “real” food stylist would have made sure that all the noodles were wrapped and neat and organized.  They probably would have made sure that there weren’t any crumbs on the placemat.  I, also, missed the mark on the focus, I moved the plate and forgot to refocus so it is a little farther back than I would have liked.  Yes, it also tasted great.

If you’ve never had fresh made pasta, well you’ve never had pasta. Granted I have an awesome pasta machine, and that makes it super easy.

3 eggs and enough flour to make a “dry” dough. Is generally enough pasta for my family. I love to add things to the raw dough to make things unique each time. This time I used dried basil to make basil pasta. YUMMY!

I have mixed feelings about this picture on one hand I like the composition I really like that I was able to make the subject stand out.  On the other hand I really am not loving the overall look, it feels flat.  I am even unsure of what I could have done better.  Well other that better lighting a couple of nice softboxes on either side probably would have helped alot.

I hope you had a good St. Patrick’s day. Mine was OK. I couldn’t find a pot of gold, but I did find something else almost as scarce, $20.

This was done with a reversal ring that made my 35mm into a “cheapo” macro lens. Because the 35mm doesn’t have a manual aperture I had to shoot long shutter speeds and flash to pop the details.

Get it heat rhymes with sweet… get it… urhg never mind.  I loved this shoot.  It was actually for wickedpepper.com These are Blair’s After-Death quiche bites.

This was a blast to make, shoot, and eat.  I thought I got quite a few good shots.  This is my favorite.  Light was my north facing window.

PS The Red Pepper ketchup was made for this and it rocked!!
