I love photography because on a night that I am just going to take something so that I can say I did; I move a couple of lights and suddenly I am completely wrapped up in the process. I never would have thought of taking a picture how I did. I normally would to pull out the umbrella for a shot like this. Because I was lazy this time I found a look I love for this shot. Sure there may be some problems with it, but there are some things I love, mainly the textures rock. I want to go after this again when I have “time”

I really like pumpkin seeds. This year we put a ton of Old Bay and Salt/Pepper and baked @350 for 45 minutes. Yummy yummy. The picture was better in my mind, but even as I set it up I thought that it lacked something. I could not think of anything else to do so I was stuck with this.

Well today sucks; yesterday was the last day of my stock photography class.

Really, last night was awesome, we did the last class in Rich’s studio for shooting people and Nicole had a great setup for food photography. I really appreciated the time and effort that everyone put into making this an incredible and productive experience. I am pretty sure that I got the 2 shots (I need at least 2 with people for acceptance) that I needed for iStock acceptance (time will tell). I am here to tell you that if you live somewhere that you can go to Rich’s class in the spring, it is a must. I got everything out of this class that I wanted and more (literally I had a list of goals for the class). Watch my twitter or leggnet.com for the future dates.

Last but not least the models that Rich had arranged for the class were awesome. Natalie (here is a picture Rich took before the class started <link>) dressed up in several different outfits: health care worker/graduate/chef/maybe more. Then we had a mother/daughter team that was so fun to work with.

The chili was a fun shoot I put it off until the end because I needed pictures of people. I am always amazed at Nicole’s talent and her style of teaching it was so laid back. I would take a picture and she would look and say here try this and go for this look. This may not be the best shot of the night but it was the funnest as we tried to get the sour cream just as it was leaving the spoon. Here is a shot that Nicole got <link>.

So its late Friday night and I am trying to get me a shot of something.  I finally had some inspiration, an egg being dropped and a picture taken at the moment of impact.  Yeah, it would be cool.  I started by getting the lights set up I used a bottle of Moutain Dew for my subject while I did this.

180mm f/22 1/200s From roughly 10 feet away. Pretty cool details huh.

So everything is set up. Well I couldn’t do rapid fire shooting to get the egg when I wanted it so I had to settle for an after shot. Notice anything different :( I must have bumped the tripod and not the focus off. The paper was a nightmare to work with I am never using scripture paper again from now on I am using the cover paper form the Ensign.

Whip it good.

This was a shot I have been planning for quite a while now. It is fairly generic, but I found it difficult to get right with the tools at my disposal (2 SB-600 and a homemade spiderlight)

145mm f/11 1/160s Flashes on the background and the spiderlight on the whisk. I need to figure out how to get the whipped cream to look right on the whisk as well.

What’s whip cream without pie?

My wife has been making bread quite a bit lately.  I am really liking it.  This was stuffed with cheese and hamburger yummy.

I’m not pleased with this picture, but I am not sure what is wrong or what I could have done better. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had big plans for a couple of shoots for the weekend, they just never happened. I started them, but never finished. This is kinda what I had in mind but I wish I could have managed the shadows better.

200mm f/10 1/250s flashes were on either side (which is probably where the shadows came from) at the same power.

I have taken this same picture three different times, and I have yet to like one of them.

I struggled with my flashes on this picture, I am not sure what I am doing with them yet. I think they were struggling power wise as well.

No not the photo, Although I am very pleased with how this turned out. A BLT with garden fresh tomatoes and sourdough bread is perfection, no ifs ands or buts.

200mm f/22 1/200s speedlights through umbrellas to the right and in front of the subject

I got playing with shutter speed and the lights in my bedroom and thought that this was worth sharing as well.
