Day 50 – Stop Looking Down At Me

I am reading Understanding Photography Field Guide by Bryan Petersen. Great read I highly recommend it. Last night I was reading it and he said that you should always be asking what if I did… So I did. I asked what if I had Chey stand on a chair and look down at me. Here’s what it looked like.

I think I am going to try again and this time light the background with the speedlight.  That way the ceiling is not dark and maybe try to do a rim light of some sort.

Day 49 – Torts

One of my favorite Italian meals is torts in brodo (tortellini in broth). The recipe is incredibly simple: a can of beef broth, a crushed clove of garlic, 1 lb of dry tortellini, 1 tbs chopped parsley, and as much shredded Parmigiana as you can get away with using. Here is one part can you guess which?

I took this with a nifty-50 on a reversal ring. I can tell that we (Christy grabbed it and took a couple of really fun pics also) are going to have a lot of fun with this method.

As a 2-fer here are a couple of the pictures Christy took with it.  I like them better than mine.

This is the off a bottle of Cholula

This is daffodil that is our centerpiece now.  This is SOOC, pretty awesome huh!  I think it looks like a watercolor.

Day 48 – Little Devils

One of my little idiosyncrasies is that I love boiled eggs, but I only eat them around Easter.  Weird huh!  I especially love  deviled eggs, you know the yolks a little mayo, and some hot sauce piped back into the white of the egg.  As a awesome twist chop up some ham and put it in the mix… heaven.

I like the picture.  I like the simplicity of it.  For once I feel like I got the DOF exactly were I wanted it, I have been using the DOF preview function on my camera.  I spend alot of time wishing for more props, more gear, more talent, but I do enjoy getting a shot with what I have.

Day 47 – The Ram

My plan for today was some really good macro shots of colored eggs, I never could get one to work. I really didn’t want to interrupt the festivities, break out the tripod and get a shot all set up. So when I saw this statute I thought that I would give some lighting techniques a try.

50mm f/4 1/200s

I like the picture. I should have gotten on a chair to change the angle to catch the eyes better. I used my snooted speed-light@ 1/32 to light the background and my on camera flash@ 1/64 with a puffer to light the front.

As a two-fer I helped a friend take a picture of this peacock.  If to get the full sized image click on the picture.
