Day 87 – Role Reversal

I have gotten several, ok two, questions about my macro set-up so here it is. At least until I have the money for the 105mm Micro lens.

I use my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 it is cheap, but by far my most used lens; it is fast, light and has manual aperture control which all lend themselves perfectly for this application. Then I have a reversal ring that screws into the filter thread and then has the Nikon mount on the other side. So the part that is generally in the camera is flying free in the air. It is a little disconcerting, but after a while you get used to it. Focusing takes a little effort and so does getting the exposure right; because those have to be done entirely manual. To focus I have to move back and forth millimeters at a time to get the razor thin DOF in focus, and sometimes it doesn’t work out so well.
